Day 13 - So close, but not yet... We woke up to pretty clear skies and made a push for the final climb out of the glacier and onto the plateau. As you can see from the picture, it looks like a bit of a steep one. I nicknamed it mount motherfucker after the final climb during the crucible in Marine Corps Boot Camp :) My fellow "Hollywood Marines" will know what I'm talking about. We got to the base of the climb after 1 shift of skiing. I was super excited and about to go back into my "cage." Then suddenly the clouds swarmed in around us... We are now back in our tent, it is snowing outside and we're in a whiteout. On the plateau, it would be fine to move in these conditions. But we can't move up the crevassed glacier with zero visibility. We still have a few days worth of food left before we get to our gear cache, but it feels like it's starting to get a bit tight - If we get more bad weather days, it will get interesting :) On the positive side, we have decided that if we do run out of food, we'll of course have to resort to cannibalism pretty quickly :) The team has decided we would eat me first since I'm a fat ass Indian :) Early in the trip, we also decided I should be the one to walk in front to find crevasses. If I fell, we would know that's where the team shouldn't go :) When I then told them that one of my jobs in Iraq was to walk in front of our vehicles looking for IED's, that only reinforced the decision that I should be the human crevasse detector :) I don't know what it is about me, but I somehow seem to warrant a lot of shit talk no matter where I go :) It's not like I bring it upon myself :) Remember, my friends, a sense of humor is one of the best weapons you have in your armory to face anything life throws at you. We were all eager to make the climb and begin part 2 of our adventure on the plateau, but no one can control the weather. So we embraced what is. We smiled, talked shit, laughed and we're now standing by for the sun...
